Dealing with Fear

While in law school at the University of Florida, I struggled with fear - especially before the final exams. Our grades were usually 95-100% based on the final exam. You had 3 hours of essays to "do or die."

Leaving a prior career, getting married and taking on significant student loans only increased the feelings of pressure for succeeding. Many nights before the exams, I would start to feel overwhelmed.

Early in my law school experience, I started reading the first chapter of Joshua outloud - where God and the Children of Israel continued to tell Joshua to be strong and courageous for God was with him. This was very encouraging to me. "Everywhere you set your foot" was where God was going to be with him.

Before each exam, I declared that God was going to be with me in that exam. I won my battle with fear.

In fact, when it came time to take the state bar exam, a two day test that makes the hearts of many fail, I was full of confidence that God was with me and that He was going to work it all out.

I passed the first time through with low stress! Praise God!
