Dealing with Fear

According to Craig Hill, Two areas in our lives the enemy attacks are "Who we are" and "our destiny." When woundings happen, the enemy races in to try and convince us that we are not acceptable, that there is something wrong with us.

That may sound like "No one could ever love me because I..." We begin to label ourselves with new identities. God doesn't look at us and label us by the things we have done but He has label us as His child, fully lovable. He loved us when we were sinner not following Him. Satan tries to rob us of our value and worth but Jesus declares in John 15:9
"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

WE are declared lovable. We are declared of great value and worth. So much that Jesus proclams that his love for us is equal in value as Father God loving Jesus the son. He wants us to remain knowing and believing that we are loved by him. Pretty amazing!

There is also an attack on our destiny. When we are wounded, the enemy rushes in to tell us that from now on every time we see something similiar to what caused our wounding we should protect ourselves. We need to build a wall. Fear comes in and says we can't do certain things anymore. We believe and our world and freedom begins to shrink.

God has a better way. He wants you to see yourself as he sees you. He wants you to believe your future is good. He tells us he has good plans for us. He plans to prosper us.

So beware of the schemes of the enemy on your life to try and attack your identity and to try and attack your destiny.

When you feel worthless or inadequate go to God and ask Him what he says about you. Don't look at the definition of others or of what you think others say about you. Listen to what he says about you.

When you are afraid that bad things are going to happen, see if perhaps you aren't giving someone or something the power and authority that belongs to God alone. If you are repent and give the power and authority back to God. Take a leap and trust that God can make your future good instead of believing the lies of the enemy that your future will be filled with bad things.

Put God back on the throne of your life. Ask God to show you any lies you have believed about your identity or your destiny. Ask Him to forgive you for your actions of making a person's words or actions bigger than God. Ask God to forgive you for believing the lie that your destiny depends on a person or anything else. These forms of idolatry are sly and creep in as fear but we are setting them up as bigger and with more power and authority than God. So we have to take them back down and place them in their rightful place.

Forgive those who have wounded you.

Command the demonic to leave you.

Romans 12: 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

May God give you eyes to see the enemies schemes and ears to hear what He says about you and your future.

Blessings,

Judy

At the end of this posting, Judy tells you to ask God to show you any lies you have believed about your identity or destiny. Your first response might be, “I don’t think I have any.” To that I would say look deeper.

My wife loves to garden. She has been carefully fertilizing and watering her garden. One plant in particular has grown a lot.   This last weekend she remarked, “You know I have really been taking care of this plant, but I am now realizing it is a weed.” Imagine that. Right along side all the other plants, a weed was getting special care! This weed didn’t stand out; in fact it looked very much like a plant. I think we all have weeds like this one in our beliefs about God, about ourselves and about how we relate others. They shape our identity and destiny like Judy says, but they also shape the beliefs we have in place for how we respond to people and circumstances.

Like this weed that wasn’t recognized and growing somewhere it didn’t belong, we don’t recognize the lies we believe but we really take care of them, giving them special care. We become comfortable with how we think, how we respond to life and how we relate to God, many times never questioning – until there is pain. When we are experiencing emotions that seem “over the top” for the current situation, it is highly likely that the pain is pointing to stuff in the past. Another ministry says it this way, the current pain is smoke, let’s find the fire.

Lies we believe and operate in will greatly hinder our identity. Here are some definitions of identity: 1 a: the distinguishing character or personality of an individual, 2: the condition of being the same with something described or asserted. It was the heart of God that we would be like HIM--think like Him and act like Him. Before the fall, Adam never struggled with fear, insecurity, guilt, exhaustion, anxiety, or failure. His identity was secure in intimate relationship with the Father. God never thinks, “There must be something wrong with me, or I’m not acceptable, or no one likes me, or I must control to be safe.” What happened to you and me? These thoughts are common place in our culture.

I challenge you. Ask God to show you the “weeds” you have been taking care of and the systems you have in place for responding to life and people. When you are experiencing the things in the paragraph above, it is highly likely you have lies in you belief systems. The last few weeks have been painful and eye opening for me as I have discovered some “stinkin thinkin” in me. The good news is our God is able to fully deliver us from “stinkin thinkin” and journey with us as He restores our identity, our oneness with Him.

Blessings,

James
