Subject: Feeling that No Relief is in Sight Dealing with Fear posted by Ssmylie on Tuesday, July 29th 2008 @ 9:44 AM
Have you ever felt like there was no relief in sight from the problems you are dealing with?
Check out 2 Kings 6:24-7:20. It is the story of Elisha and the Samaratin King who was under seige by the Arameans. It was a desparate situation and the King was about to make some poor choices.
What was encouraging to me was despite how long the siege was, God was able to turn things around overnight (read it to see how this happened). For me, there were a couple of lessons.
1. 1. How many times do I feel like the king, when I think: “Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” So often I get frustrated with God’s timing because it’s not my timing. Deadlines that I set for God’s deliverance of my circumstances come and go. I feel desperate and wanting and frustrated with those whose walk seems closer to the Lord than mine. How many times does God’s provision come after I have thought I can’t go on any farther? It seems that God shows me that we can rely on Him way beyond our own breaking point or when things seem hopeless.
2. 2. Our lack of faith can trample us down. The soldier who did not believe Elisha missed out on God’s provision. So often, I wonder if I am missing out on God’s provision because I don’t really believe what He says to me. I know that He has promised to be faithful, to provide; yet, when my time/deadline comes and goes, then my faith wanes. I don’t believe that God can really change things that seem so overwhelming.
The obstacles in our lives can seem like insurmountable mountains, and that no one, not even God can move them. Yet, the truth is, that with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). We are to speak to our mountains, in faith, commanding them to move (Matthew 21:21-22).
As you meditate on what mountains are in your life, why they are there and read stories like the one in 2 Kings, do not let the enemy whisper in your ear that it is simply a matter of having more faith and that you are a failure because of your lack of faith, (although faith is a HUGE key to seeing the mountain move).
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any sin or lies hindering you or if there is someone you need to forgive in order to get the breakthrough needed. Remember, many times the hardest person to forgive is ourselves.
